New Delhi: A day before Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh became the 20th member to be suspended for the remainder of this week for “tearing some papers and throwing them towards the chair” during the proceedings of the House.
Singh’s suspension was followed by a motion by Junior Parliamentary Affairs Minister V Muraleedharan for his “unruly behavior” for raising slogans from the Well of the House and “disregarding the authority of the Speaker”. This motion was made by voice vote.
Singh’s suspension comes a day after Rajya Sabha Deputy Speaker Harivansh Narayan Singh suspended 19 opposition MPs for the remainder of this week.
Singh said he had raised the issue of spurious liquor in Gujarat in the House and was “repeatedly requesting the Speaker and the government” for answers on how spurious liquor is being sold in the state where prohibition is in force. . Singh said, “I had raised the issue yesterday also. Today (Wednesday), I gave notice under Rule 267 and was repeatedly requesting the Speaker and the government for a reply… but the government did not respond. given. I was suspended.” Claimed.
No business could take place in the House on Wednesday. Soon after the papers were laid on the Table of the House, Singh started raising some issues, but Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu did not agree. He also warned that he would name the MP who would be “sent out”. But this had no effect and the House was adjourned till noon. Soon after the resumption of the House, the Deputy Speaker noted the AAP MLA’s “unruly” behavior and a resolution was passed to suspend him for the next two days.
In the pre-lunch session, the House was adjourned first immediately after meeting at 11 am and then twice during Question Hour – first for 15 minutes and then till 2 pm.
After lunch, when the Rajya Sabha resumed, Naidu urged Singh to leave the House as he had been suspended. He also urged the opposition MPs to follow due process to raise their issues. But as his appeal had no effect and the protests continued, Naidu adjourned the House for the day.
