Elon Musk takes over Twitter, fires CEO Parag Agrawal: Reports
Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal and Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal are among executives leaving Twitter as Elon Musk closes his $44 billion deal to acquire Twitter, according to reports. CNBC reports that Parag and Ned Segal have left the company’s San Francisco headquarters and will not be returning. Vijaya Gade, head of legal, policy and foundations at Twitter since 2012, and Sean Edgett, who has been general counsel at Twitter since 2012, are also leaving, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
The New York Times reported that top officials, including Parag Agarwal, were fired after the deal was completed. The NYT report said that at least one of the fired executives was forced out of Twitter’s office.
Parag Agarwal became Twitter’s CEO in November following the resignation of Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. Agarwal has been working at Twitter for almost a decade and was the Chief Technology Officer before taking over as CEO.
Elon Musk vs Parag Agarwal
The acquisition of the social media platform by the world’s richest man ends a long legal battle and months-long feud between Elon Musk and former Twitter leadership. Elon Musk and Parag Aggarwal had a lot of bad blood between them, and none of it was hidden from the public eye as this case made their heated exchanges public. “I have no confidence in management,” Musk said in an early filing about the deal. “Is Twitter Dying?” Or you’re free to tweet anything else about Twitter, but it’s my responsibility to tell you that it doesn’t help Twitter to do better in the current environment,” wrote Parag Agarwal.
