Excerpts with Ajeet Chandra, author of GATE-CY: A Detailed Solution Manual of Organic Chemistry (Clever Fox Publishing)
Clever Fox Publishing : Tell us something about your background.
Ajeet Chandra : I, Dr. Ajeet Chandra have completed my Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. J. N. Moorthy, Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur). I have completed my graduate (Y: 2007–2010) and post-graduate (Y: 2010–2012) programs from the VBS Purvanchal University Jaunpur and University of Allahabad, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, I have gained my research experience from IIT Delhi as a Pre Ph.D. fellow. Currently, I am working as an institute postdoctoral fellow with the advisor Prof. I. N. N. Namboothiri at the Department of Chemistry, IIT Bombay, INDIA.
Clever Fox Publishing : When and how did you start your writing journey?
Ajeet Chandra : I have started writing journey of my 2013th onward. To the date, one is published and many are underling in the sequence. I am aiming to publish a CSIR-Chemical science book in the upcoming next years. Of course this book have some continuity with upcoming book because this book is dealing many simple to advanced problems whereas in the CSIR books most of the problems written in the advance way.
Clever Fox Publishing : What is your book all about?
Ajeet Chandra : This book is completely focused on organic chemistry on the topic of one-pot steps and multistep reactions. Also, primarily intended for graduate as well as post-graduate students for organic chemistry and broadly focuses on the topics of single-step/multistep reaction, name reactions, reagents, anomeric effects, and conformational analysis from competitive GATE-exam questionnaires are largely derived. Detailed solutions for ‘GATE-CY: A Detailed Solution Manual of Organic Chemistry’ papers of the previous years from 2005 to 2022 has been provided. Great efforts have been made to equip students with ample knowledge of organic chemistry, which will enable them to solve questions in various qualifying examinations. Aspiring researchers of synthetic chemistry will also find the subjects covered herein to be very useful in their proposed research areas.
Clever Fox Publishing : What prompted you to write this book?
Ajeet Chandra : I have found that many books are available in the market and have high cost thus a lot of students unable to purchase it. Also, for learning and solving the advanced problems in accordance to the highly reputed national and international exams you have to read many books. After these, you can improve your concepts by giving/solving many reputed exams in chemistry which is organized by many national and international agency.
Clever Fox Publishing : How was your pre-writing experience? What urged you?
Ajeet Chandra : This is my first experience which is fantastic.
Clever Fox Publishing : How was your writing experience? Smooth or bumpy?
Ajeet Chandra : For the giving a unique shape of my books in accordance to the audience, I have tried my best of knowledge to layout my full efforts in the form of mechanistic ideas during writing the mechanism of the reactions. So that readers would get a great logical approach with innovative knowledge of organic chemistry.
Clever Fox Publishing : How much did your publishers contribute? Did they ease the process for you?
Ajeet Chandra : The Claver Fox Publishing group members are more cooperative, polite and helpful during the publishing my group. I thank to the Claver Fox Publishing house. It is very easy to publish your book in this self-publishing house and they will help and support you nicely, for the giving the shape and look of your book.
Clever Fox Publishing : What is the reaction of your family and friends to you writing this book?
Ajeet Chandra : Surprisingly, I gained the experience directly and indirectly in the both favour and disfavour of the support and criticism regarding my book. I have continued my work without affected by these colleagues and mounted up in the positive direction which helped me considerably to understand the depth of chemistry in accordance to the audience. After publishing my book globally, I found that both colleagues appreciated my work, knowledge and experience. Of course, as usual my family supported enormously for the writing and also for the communication of this book.
Clever Fox Publishing : Mention the people who supported you in this journey.
Ajeet Chandra : I am grateful to Dr. Abhishek R. Tiwari for his invaluable assistance during the revision of my book. I would like to my senior and junior colleagues, Prof. Vishnu P. Shrivastava, Prof. Rohan D. Erendey, Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Prof. Suresh C. Yadav, and Prof. Santosh Singh. Special thanks to my present and past colleagues from the IITs Delhi (years 2013–2014) Kanpur (years of 2014–2020) and Bombay (years of 2021–2022). Finally, I also would like to thank all the readers for their comments and suggestions, especially Dr. Pravin, Mr. Deepak, Mr. Banamali, Ms. Rajni, and Ms. Snehal, and all the other friends of the department of chemistry.
Clever Fox Publishing : How is your book going to impact the readers?
Ajeet Chandra : References for scientific journals and books have been added as and when required in the text, in keeping with contemporaneous research. Three-dimensional illustrations for reaction mechanisms have been provided wherever possible for greater understanding and depth. The readers should also note that there might be slight variations in the operating mechanism for the same reaction at different points in the book, as these have been
Clever Fox Publishing : How do you deal with negative comments if any?
Ajeet Chandra : The author would greatly appreciate critical feedback from readers if they find any discrepancies in the mechanisms discussed in this book, which will also serve as updates for the next edition. This book can be used for the clamming answers for the given wrong answers by any examinations if references are available. The author has doubts in the case of a few astricts marked questionnaires. Thus, I would like to thank the readers in advance, if they can provide the references for the astricts marked questionnaires that can be edited in the next edition.
Clever Fox Publishing : Who are your literary mentors and role models?
Ajeet Chandra : I was highly inspired by my superior post-graduate professors; Dr. J. Singh, Dr. L. D. S. Yadav and Dr. I. R. Siddiqui from University of Allahabad and also form the professors of the various institutions. I have enormously learned basic and advanced chemistry form his books. Later, I decided for the writing a unique problem solving books in the area of organic chemistry for the GATE and CSIR in chemistry.
Clever Fox Publishing : What are your upcoming writing ventures?
Ajeet Chandra : Next, I am also going to communicate the books for the CSIR and other competitive exams books. The schematic way of this book is ready and aiming to publish soon.
Clever Fox Publishing : Any piece of advice for our aspiring writers?
Ajeet Chandra : Yes! I can say that experience and valuable times for the detailed studies and analysis in their respective areas will make them perfect.
