Kolkata: A day after he was relieved from the post of minister after being removed from all posts of Trinamool Congress and arrested in a case school recruitment scam, Partha Chatterjee Said on Friday that he has become a victim of a conspiracy hatched against him.
The 69-year-old leader, who is in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate, was taken to the ESI Hospital in Joka on the city’s southern outskirts for medical examination during the day.
As he got off a vehicle and was approached by journalists, Chatterjee said he was just “the victim of a conspiracy”.
Chatterjee, who was the Minister for Industry and Parliamentary Affairs, held the Education portfolio when the scam was allegedly dropped. a close associate of his, Arpita Mukherjeewas also arrested by Ed After crores of rupees in cash were seized from his residences in some parts of the city.
On Thursday evening, officials of the central agency had raided a third apartment belonging to Mukherjee in Chinar Park area of the city.
Since the flat was locked and the keys could not be traced, ED officials broke into its entrance in the presence of central force officials.
Earlier, raids were conducted at Mukherjee’s flat in Belghoria area, where unaccounted cash worth around Rs 28 crore was kept along with a large amount of gold and silver.
The central agency had also allegedly seized over Rs 21 crore in cash from another flat of Mukherjee in Tollygunge area.
According to ED sources, the value of gold jewelery is yet to be ascertained.
