‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ box office collections jumped up by 20 percent, but it is not good enough as the high end multiplexes where the film is doing its best business did not show major growth even on Saturday as expected, reports Box Office India. The film collected Rs 8.75 crore nett on its day 3 taking its total collection to Rs 27.50 crore. The film received a fair response in Delhi NCR and East Punjab with North India (Delhi/UP and East Punjab) contributing around 40% of the all India business despite facing some protests.
The growth, however, was better than Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’. It remains to be seen if the film can show some more improvement in the mass markets that would take the collections to Rs 50 crore nett over its extended five day weekend.
The film has been mired in controversy after netizens called for a boycott because of Aamir’s statement about intolerance in the country. Protests were seen in some parts of the country like Punjab and Varanasi. Several shows of the film were reportedly cancelled due to low occupancy. A complaint has been filed against Aamir and others for allegedly “disrespecting the Indian Army and hurting Hindu sentiments” in ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.
