Four Congress MPs Manickam Tagore, Jothimani, Ramya Haridas and TN Pratapan were suspended for the session. House demand for discussion on inflation
After revocation of suspension, House discussed price hike, initiated by Congress member Manish Tewari,
“The country has double-digit inflation for the last 14 months, it is the highest in 30 years. The consumer food price index is skyrocketing. GST hiked on rice, curd, paneer and items of daily use like pencils and sharpeners, the government said. Even Congress is not being spared,” Congress leader Manish Tewari said.
The House’s discussion on price hike has been a bone of contention between the Treasury and opposition benches since the session began on July 18, almost at the end of the proceedings.
Since the commencement of the monsoon session on July 18, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha have been mostly disrupted due to opposition and demands for discussion on increase in prices and increase in GST rate on some food items.
