Umesh Katti Dies: Umesh Kutti was elected as MLA 9 times from Hukkeri assembly constituency. Katti was the senior-most minister in the Basavaraj Bommai cabinet and had also expressed his desire to become the chief minister.
Karnataka Minister Umesh Katti Dies: Karnataka’s Forest, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Umesh Katti died of a heart attack in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has expressed grief over his death. “Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of my close colleague, Karnataka Forest Minister Umesh Katti. The state has lost an accomplished diplomat, active leader and loyal public servant in his death,” he tweeted.
Elected 9 times MLA from Hukkeri Assembly Constituency
Katti was 61 years old. He is survived by wife Sheela, son Nikhil and daughter Sneha. He was elected MLA 9 times from Hukkeri assembly constituency. Katti was the senior-most minister in the Basavaraj Bommai cabinet and had also expressed his desire to become the chief minister. A native of Beladbagewadi in Hukkeri taluk, Katti was vocal in his demand for the bifurcation of the state. He stood in the 1985 by-election after the death of his father Vishwanath Katti and was elected to the Legislative Assembly for the first time. He contested this election as a candidate of Janata Party. In 1989 and 1994, he contested and won the elections on Janata Dal ticket. Whereas in 1999 he won as a candidate of Janata Dal (United). In 2004, when he stood from here on a Congress ticket, he lost the election.
Continuous demand for separate state for development

Umesh Katti always raised his voice for the development of North Karnataka region. For the development of this part, he had also demanded the division of the state from time to time. He said that there is rapid development in small states. His ambition was to become the Chief Minister of a unified state and he had even said that one day his son would become the Chief Minister of North Karnataka. Leaders of all parties have expressed grief over his sudden demise.
