New Delhi: Head of the banned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front ,JKLF, Yasin MalikHe has started a hunger strike inside, serving life imprisonment in many cases including terrorism funding. Tiharof jail, jail officials said on Saturday.
Malik, who is lodged in jail number 7 of Tihar Jail, has alleged that his case is not being investigated properly as he started his hunger strike on July 22. Malik, who was arrested soon after the JKLF was banned in 2019, was on May 19. This year an NIA court pleaded guilty to terror funding cases and sentenced him to life imprisonment on May 25. The NIA court sentenced Malik to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on him. He told the court that he did not contest the charges against him.
On July 15 this year, Rubaiya Saeed, sister of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti and daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, identified Malik in connection with her abduction by JKLF terrorists on December 8, 1989. Was.
Rubaiya was kidnapped in Srinagar on December 8, 1989 and freed from captivity five days later on December 13, when the then VP Singh government at the Center released five terrorists in return.
Malik is an accused in the case along with others.
The 56-year-old separatist leader has requested to appear in a Jammu court during the hearing of the case on August 23.
Besides the Rubaiya Saeed kidnapping case, Malik is also facing charges in the January 1990 killing of four Indian Air Force (IAF) officers in Srinagar.
Malik has also given an application to the central government to appear in person in this matter.
