Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin elected chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia
New Delhi, March 14 (PTI) Bohra Muslim community leader Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin has been elected Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia for a five-year term from Tuesday, university officials said.
Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin has been the leader of the million-strong global Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community since 2014. He succeeds Najma Heptullah, who completed a five-year term as chancellor of the university last year.
“The members of the Jamia Millia Islamia Court (Anjuman) have unanimously elected Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddinas the chancellor of the university for a term of five years from March 14, 2023,” a university official said.
The official added that Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin election to the list of 500 most influential Muslims took place at a court meeting on Monday.
In a statement, the university said Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin”leads by his exceptional example” and has dedicated his life to the betterment of society with special focus on education, environment, socio-economic aspects and more.
Global projects Saifuddin oversees include Saifee Burhani Uplift Project, Turning the Tide, Project Rice, FMB Community Kitchen works to eradicate hunger, reduce food waste, protect the environment and more.
A citation was read in the U.S. House of Representatives celebrating his contributions, and he was received as an honored state guest in several countries, the university said.
He is an alumnus of Al-Azhar University and Cairo University, Egypt.
He also inaugurated the new campus of Al-Jamia Tus-Saifiya in Mumbai on 10 February.
He has been doing charity work across the country and the world. The statement added that she introduced sustainable farming methods, improved local infrastructure and provided equal access to education for both girls and boys in Yemen. PTI VA ABH ABH
