Hong Kong beat UAE to qualify for Asia Cup, join India and Pakistan in Group A Hong Kong on Wednesdaydefeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by eight wickets to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 T20 tournament. In the Asia Cup Qualifier held at the Al Amarat Cricket Stadium in Muscat, Oman, Hong Kong chased down a target of 148 for their third consecutive win. Prior to the final league match, Hong Kong and the UAE were put in a win-win situation after Kuwait’s whirlwind victory over Singapore, which helped hold the lead on net run rate.
Kuwait to join India and Pakistan in Group A Hong Kong’s disciplined bowling effort helped restrict UAE to 147 after winning the toss. Captain Nizakat Khan and opener Yazim Mortaza then gave the team a quick start. The two registered Hong Kong’s highest ever T20I opening partnership (85) before Nizakat fell for 39. Hong Kong chased before crossing the line with six balls to spare.
The win booked the UAE ticket to Hong Kong, where it will play India and Pakistan in Group A.
