The date for PAN and Aadhaar linking has been extended to June 30
The central government has extended the last date for taxpayers to link Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar. As per the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) release, the date has been extended to June 30, 2023. It said that notification in this regard is issued separately. Linking PAN with Aadhaar is important to prevent tax evasion. If a taxpayer fails to attach both the documents, his/her PAN card will be deactivated. In such cases the taxpayer cannot provide, inform or quote his PAN number.
In order to provide some more time to the taxpayers, the date for linking PAN & Aadhaar has been extended to 30th June, 2023, whereby persons can intimate their Aadhaar to the prescribed authority for PAN-Aadhaar linking without facing repercussions.

The CBDT also mentioned that if the taxpayer does not link his Aadhaar and PAN number, penalty will be levied from July 1. These include:
- No tax refund is allowed for such PAN cards
- If the taxpayer attaches both the documents after filing the return, the Income Tax Department will not pay interest on the refund for the period when the two documents are not attached.
- Both Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and Tax Collected at Source (TCS) are deducted/collected at a higher rate in such cases.
A taxpayer can reactivate his PAN card within 30 days after paying a late fee of ₹ 1,000.
