Insulting our intelligence with ‘absurd allegation’: Kapil Sibal on BJP’s Rahul ‘insulted OBCs’ claim
Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Saturday took a swipe at two BJP ministers for accusing Congress president Rahul Gandhi of insulting OBCs with his “Modi surname” comment in 2019, saying they “insulted” people’s intelligence by making such a “ridiculous allegation”.
Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on Friday, almost 24 hours after a Surat court convicted him in a defamation case.
Gujarat’s Surat court sentenced Gandhi to two years in prison in a defamation case filed on the complaint of BJP MLA Purnesh Modi — “How come Modi is a common surname for all thieves?
” Addressing a press conference on Friday, BJP leaders and Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Anurag Thakur accused Gandhi of insulting OBCs.
Responding to their comments, former law minister Sibal tweeted, “Dharmendra Pradhan, Anurag Thakur: ‘Rahul insulted OBCs’. You are ‘insulting’ our intelligence by making such ridiculous allegations.” He left the Congress and was elected to the Rajya Sabha as an independent member with the support of the Samajwadi Party.
