Jadavpur University professor who shared Mamata Banerjee cartoons acquitted after 11 years
Jadavpur University professor Ambikesh Mahabatra, who was arrested for sending defamatory cartoons on Mamata Banerjee and Mukul Rai, has been acquitted after an 11-year legal battle.
On April 12, 2012, an FIR was registered against him at East Jadavpur Police Station and he was later arrested.
In an interview with India Today TV, Mahabhadra said that the war is against all kinds of atrocities. The Alipore District Court asked the lower court to acquit the professor from the criminal case.
“There is a sort of conspiracy by the Bengal government, the police administration and the ruling party thugs to stop any voice against the government,” the professor said.
Mahabhadra was charged under Section 66A of the Information Technology Act by the state government and sections of the Indian Penal Code.
