BENGALURU: A Karnataka BJP MLA came under fire for disrespecting Lord Rama on Friday. Sharanu salagar, who represents Basavakalyana constituency in Bidar district of the state, was seen garlanding the Ram idol. Pictures and videos of him trampling the statue, which many found insulting, started circulating on social media with tough questions for the BJP.
Sharanu standing on the statue and taking a picture angered many devotees. The Congress posted the video on social media and questioned the BJP’s claim of ‘Hindutva’ and Ram Bhakti.

The Congress also cited several instances of BJP leaders accusing them of insulting gods and asked if they were the custodians of Hinduism as they claimed to be.
Defending his action, Chalakar said he did it on the request of party workers and did not want to step on the statue.
Elections to the 224-member Karnataka Legislative Assembly will be held on May 10. The results will be held on May 13. It is expected that there will be a tough competition between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, Janata Dal-Secular Janata Dal (JD-S). Plays the role of potential kingmaker.
The BJP has been fighting back against widespread corruption allegations in the state, and the Congress is campaigning hard to return to power.
