Odisha tech varsity girl student dies after jumping off power channel bridge

A student of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUD) at Burla in Sambalpur district jumped to her death from a power channel bridge on Tuesday night.

Chinmayi Priyadarshini Sahu, a student, jumped from the Power Channel Bridge on Tuesday evening. He belongs to Rampur Madanpur area in Kalahandi district.

According to sources, Chinmayi is a student of IT department of University. He attended the university’s convocation on February 28 and received his degree.

Police sources said that Saimayi was returning home by bus after the graduation ceremony. In this case, he had a dispute with a young man last night and jumped from the bridge. However, the exact reason for his drastic action was not immediately ascertained.

Following the incident, the Burla police have summoned the youth for questioning. Preliminary investigation revealed that the youth was a classmate of the student.

Police have also seized two mobile phones from the youth to check call records and message details.

Immediately after the incident, the fire department started searching for the student. A search operation was resumed on Wednesday and his body was recovered from the water body.
