Pakistan Faces ‘Uphill Task’ To Get Kashmir Into ‘Centre’ Of Agenda At UN: Pak Minister
United Nations: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has admitted that Islamabad faces an “uphill task” to bring the Kashmir issue “to the center” of the United Nations agenda.
Mr Zardari stumbled when referring to India, first describing India as “our friend” before using the word “neighbour”.
“You are also right to note that we face an especially uphill task to bring Kashmir to the center of the United Nations agenda,” Mr Zardari told a press conference on Friday. Between the situation of Palestine with Kashmir.
Pakistan raises the issue of Jammu and Kashmir at every UN forum and forum, regardless of topic or agenda.
However, its agenda could not gain any traction or support from the wider UN membership, which views Kashmir as a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan.
Whenever the issue of Kashmir is raised, our friends inside…our friend…our..our…neighbours, are strongly opposed, strongly opposed and they try to perpetuate a post-truth narrative. The 34-year-old Pakistani foreign minister said it was not a United Nations dispute and it was not a disputed territory recognized by the international community.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after New Delhi abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution to abrogate the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019.
India has categorically told the international community that the abrogation of Article 370 is a domestic matter. It also asked Pakistan to stop all propaganda against India and accept reality.
India has told Pakistan that it wants normal neighborly relations with Islamabad in an environment free of terrorism, hostility and violence.
Mr Zardari said, “Although it is difficult to get to the truth, we are persistent in our efforts”, adding that in every case, it is the UN. The plight of the people of Palestine and Kashmir.
“I think your juxtaposition is very fair. There are many similarities between the plight of the people of Kashmir and the plight of the people of Palestine. I think both issues are being overlooked by the United Nations and we want more attention not only on Palestine but also on Kashmir,” he added.
On the sidelines of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), Mr Zardari was addressing the media here on the outcome of the Women in Islam Conference and commemoration of the first Islamophobia Day.
