Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad constituency BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap passed away after prolonged illness.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Pimpri-Chinchwad, Laxman Jagtap, passed away on Tuesday, January 3 after prolonged illness.
Jagtab (59) was admitted to a private hospital in Baner when he died. He was reportedly suffering from cancer.
According to reports, his condition has been improving for the past few days and he was discharged from the hospital but was re-admitted as his condition worsened, a report said.
Political career of Jagtab
He first started his political career by contesting the Pimbri-Chinchwad local body elections. Subsequently, he contested on behalf of the Congress in 1986 and won and joined the NCP in 1999.
He served twice as the mayor of Pimpri Chinchwad and once as the chairman of the standing committee.
He became a member of the Legislative Council in 2004. In 2009, he quit the NCP and started working as an independent candidate.
He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections on behalf of the Farmer Labor Party. However, he lost to Shiv Sena’s Srirang Parane.
Jagtap then joined the BJP. He contested the 2014 assembly elections. He won the MLA election in 2019 as well.

“Chinchwad Assembly Constituency MLA Laxman Jagtap has passed away. He was known as a popular leader in his area. We all share in the grief of Jagtap’s family. Heartfelt condolences,” wrote NCP president Supriya Sule. A tweet condoling his demise.
