There are reports that Rajkumar Hirani is going to take up the biopic of Indian cricket legend Lala Amarnath
Rajkumar Hirani is currently shooting for Dunki opposite Shah Rukh Khan. After the incredible success of SRK’s recent release and comeback film Pathaan, this is one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year. But even before Dungi wraps up, there are already reports of Hirani’s next film, his other biopic after Sanju. This time, he presents the life of former Indian cricket legend Lala Amarnath, as reported by Peeping Moon.
The report also says that the film will be produced under Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment banner.
The publication quoted a source as saying, “Rajkumar Hirani is planning a biopic on Lala Amarnath from 2019. In fact, it was one of the two scripts he offered to Shah Rukh, but the superstar chose Dunki and the biopic was put on hold. For now. After the release of Dunki, Hirani wants to revive the Lala Amarnath biopic and has asked his writing team to complete the script by the end of this year. It’s a story that Hirani is so passionate about that Dunki is committed to starting work on it as soon as he leaves his organization.
Lala Amarnath was born on September 11, 1911. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium fast bowler. He played 24 Tests for India and scored one century and four half-centuries. As a bowler, he took 45 wickets in as many matches with two five-wicket hauls. He has played 186 domestic matches. He died in 2000 at the age of 88.
The source added that the biopic will be an entertainment highlight. “Lala Amarnath’s biography is not a typical sports biography. Hirani tells his story in his usual entertaining way, beautifully highlighting Lala’s career, his spasmodic wit and his enduring influence on Indian cricket. An A-list young star is expected to star in the film. However, the director will finalize someone only after completing Dungi’s shoot,” said the source.
This will not be the first film where Lala Amarnath’s character will be explored. Kabir Khan’s highly acclaimed film 83 saw the character of Lala Amarnath in a few scenes. Interestingly, his character was essayed by his son and another cricket legend, Mohinder Amarnath.
