Ranji Trophy 2022-23: Arjun Tendulkar emulates father Sachin Tendulkar’s century in Ranji arena
Ranji Trophy 2022-23: Arjun Tendulkar made his Ranji debut for Goa against Rajasthan and scored a century on his first-class debut at the Goa Cricket Association Academy.
By India Today Web Desk: Arjun Tendulkar on Wednesday, December 14, scored his maiden first-class century in the Ranji Trophy and emulated his father and legend Sachin Tendulkar.
In 1988, Sachin scored a century on his Ranji Trophy debut against Gujarat at the age of 15. After 34 years, Arjun was able to emulate his father in a match against Rajasthan at the Goa Cricket Association Academy.
At 196 for 4 in 78.1 overs, the southpaw came in to bat at number 7 after SD Lott was dismissed.
At the end of the first day of play, Arjun was batting on four off 15 balls. On day two, the left-handed batsman put his best foot forward and reached his half-century without breaking much of a sweat.
After that, he scored his maiden Ranji hundred, showing that he was not with the bat in hand. The partnership between Arjun and Prabhudesai also crossed the 200-run mark.
At the time of writing, Arjun scored 100 runs off 178 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes.
Earlier this year, Arjun moved to Goa after not getting many opportunities in Mumbai cricket.
He played two matches for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, after which he was selected to play for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
However, to his dismay, he did not get a chance to play a single match for the Rohit Sharma-led five-time IPL champions.
