4 Dead After Falling Into Well At A Temple In Indore, 17 Rescued
Indore: 4 people including 2 women died when more than 30 people fell into the step well in Indore temple this morning. Ahead of Rama Navami, the roof of the well in the temple collapsed due to overcrowding.
Seventeen people have been rescued, many of whom have been hospitalized, as rescue operations continue at the Beleshwar Mahadev temple.
The deaths were confirmed by Indore police chief Makarand Devaskar.
The incident took place at the Beleshwar Mahadev temple amid a rush of devotees on Ram Navami. Footage from the spot indicates that due to heavy footfall, the floor of the temple caved in and people were thrown into the well.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said efforts are underway to shift others to safer places.
“It’s an unfortunate incident, but rescue work is on,” he said earlier.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over the incident.
“Deeply saddened by the accident in Indore. Spoke to Chief Minister @ChowhanShivaraj ji and discussed the situation. State govt is speeding up rescue and relief work. My prayers to all affected and their families,” he tweeted. .
Earlier, Indore Collector T Raja said that rescue operations are underway and the administration is closely monitoring the situation.
