Karnataka Elections: Rahul Gandhi has promised Rs 1 crore to each gram panchayat
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday promised to allocate Rs 1 crore to each gram panchayat and Rs 5,000 crore to the Kalyana Karnataka region if the Congress comes to power in the May 10 assembly elections.
Amid the rain, the former Congress leader addressed an election rally where he promised to fill 50,000 government job vacancies.
“We will allocate Rs 5,000 crore for this area. Each gram panchayat will get Rs 1 crore,” said a soaked Gandhi in Kalaburki district.
Kalyana Karnataka region includes Bidar, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, Kalapuraki, Ballari and Vijayanagara districts.
He also ‘prophesied’ that only 40 seats would be available as the ruling BJP wanted this number. Gandhi alleged that BJP ministers in Karnataka charged 40 per cent commission for public works from contractors so that the party won’t win more than 40 seats and the Congress would win 150 seats and form the next government.
He termed the present ruling BJP government as a stolen government and said that the ruling party bought the opposition MLAs.
“We are going to form a government. “No one can stop our party from coming to power,” Gandhi said.
He reiterated four key “guarantees” of the Congress: Rs 2,000 to female head of household, 200 units of free electricity to each household, Rs 3,000 to unemployed graduates and unemployed diploma holders (both Rs 1,500 for under 18 and up to 25 years) for two years, and BPL family 10 kg of rice per month for each member.
Apart from this, Gandhi on Thursday announced the party’s fifth “guarantee”: free bus travel for women on public transport buses.
