“PT Usha Said Comments Misinterpreted”: Wrestler On “Indiscipline” Remark

New Delhi: Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha today met wrestlers at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, days after confederation president Brij Bhushan criticized the #MeToo movement against sharan Singh.

Former Olympian PT Usha left the protest venue without addressing the gathered media, however, wrestler Bajrang Punia has promised to help the players. “Ms Usha said her comments were misunderstood and that she was first an athlete and then an administrator. She said she was with us,” Mr Punia. said.
“He said he would try to solve all our problems and help us get justice,” he said.

Ms Usha criticized the wrestlers last month for not waiting for the report of a panel tasked to look into their allegations before deciding to stage a public demonstration.

“Resistance equals indiscipline,” he said.

“The players should not have protested on the streets. They should have at least waited for the committee’s report. What they did was not good for the sport and the country. It was a negative attitude,” Ms. Usha said.

Wrestlers reacted strongly to Ms Usha’s statement, saying they were offended by her comments as they were hoping for support.

“PT Usha’s comment hurts us. Even though she is a woman, she did not support us. What mess did we do? We are sitting here silently. If we had got justice, we would not have done this,” said wrestler Sakshi Malik. said.’

We don’t know if she is under some kind of pressure,” said wrestler Vinesh Phogat.

Indian wrestlers are protesting at Jantar Mantar in the national capital against sexual allegations against Brij Bhushan sharan Singh.

The Delhi Police has registered two cases against Singh in relation to allegations of sexual assault. One of the FIRs was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act based on a complaint by a minor.

Despite assurances of police action, the wrestlers said they would continue their sit-in demanding the “immediate arrest” of the WFI chief.

“We respect the Supreme Court’s order, but we have no faith in the Delhi Police.

This protest is not for FIR. This protest is to punish people like him. He should be in jail and his portfolios taken away,” the wrestlers had said.
