Punjab Cong chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring concedes defeat in Jalandhar LS bypoll
Chandigarh, May 13 (PTI) Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Waring, who conceded defeat in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election, congratulated the Aam Aadmi Party and its candidate Sushil Ringu.
According to the latest trends available on the Election Commission website, Ringu is leading by 58,430 votes over his closest rival and Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary. The result is yet to be announced by the Election Commission.
“We humbly accept the people’s mandate! Thank you party workers, volunteers, supporters & entire @INCP Punjab leadership for their hard work & efforts for #Jalandhar bypoll. Congratulations Sushil Ringu & Aam Aadmi Party for victory,” Warring tweeted.
Polling was held on May 10 following the death of Karamjit Kaur’s husband and Congress MP Chandok Singh Chaudhary in January. Counting of votes started at 8 am.
The Aam Aadmi Party’s Ringu has been consistently ahead of his nearest rival since the counting of votes began.
19 candidates contested the by-elections, with a polling of 54.70 percent. This was much less than the 63.04 percent votes recorded in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
