Ruchira Kamboj Permanent Representative of India to the UN, received the medal from the Secretary-General.

“We are jointly working to establish a peacekeeping memorial wall,” She said at a traditional reception hosted by the Permanent Mission of India on Peacekeeping Day. He called on United Nations member states to join together in co-sponsoring a resolution on the memorial wall that is expected to be adopted soon by the General Assembly.

“Essentially, the idea is to erect a memorial wall in a prominent place at the United Nations headquarters, with the names of all the heroes who died, I believe quite honestly, which is the least we can do for them. Today we salute them.” Speaking at the reception, Secretary General Chef de Cabinet Courtenay Rattray said, “We welcome India’s initiative to honor fallen peacekeepers by erecting a memorial wall. We invite all Member States to support this worthy idea. Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix expressed appreciation and support for India’s initiative to honor fallen peacekeepers by establishing a memorial wall. “We will continue our collective remembrance of fallen heroes and our efforts to improve the safety and security of peacekeepers,” he said.

Abyei, the Central African Republic, Cyprus, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lebanon, the Middle East and Western Sahara, with more than 6,000 troops and police, the UN. India is currently the 3rd largest contributor of uniformed personnel to the Peace Corps.
