“Government Tried To Stop Bharat Jodo Yatra, But…”: Rahul Gandhi In US
New Delhi: Addressing an event in San Francisco today, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said the government has used all its might to stop the Bharat Jodo Yatra. To begin the three-city tour of America, Mr. Gandhi arrived in San Francisco on Tuesday. During this visit, he will meet overseas Indians and members of the US Parliament.
“The government used all its might to stop the Bharat Jodo Yatra. BJP is threatening people and abusing government institutions. But nothing worked, the impact of the Yatra increased. This happened because the idea of ‘Join India’ is in everyone’s heart,” Mr. Gandhi said. “Bharat Jodo Yatra started because BJP-RSS controlled all the tools needed to communicate with people.”
The Bharat Jodo Yatra started from Kanyakumari on 7th September 2022, covered a distance of 3,000 km and ended on 30th January at Srinagar where Mr Gandhi hoisted the national flag.
Bharat Jodo Yatra had a sense of affection, respect and humility. If you read history, you will find that all the spiritual leaders including Guru Nanak Dev, Guru Basavanna, Narayana Guru united the nation in a similar way. ,” said Mr. Gandhi.
Mr Gandhi’s comments come weeks before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US. Prime Minister Modi is visiting the US in June at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The US President and First Lady will also host a state dinner for the Prime Minister on June 22.
At a social event in San Francisco, Mr Gandhi reiterated his party’s call for a caste census. He said it would be like an “X-ray” of society, revealing the extent of caste discrimination. He also said that schemes like Nyay and MGNREGA would help provide economic justice to the poor.
Gandhi alleged that the BJP and the RSS were attacking the Constitution and trying to divide the country on caste and religious lines.
The 52-year-old is expected to speak to Indian Americans, meet Wall Street executives and interact with university students during his six-day US tour. He is scheduled to conclude his tour in New York on June 4 with a public meeting at the Javits Center.
