A 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck Amreli in Gujarat, with no casualties reported
Amreli: A mild tremor measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale was reported in Savarkundla taluk of Gujarat’s Amreli district on Thursday, an official of the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) said. District officials said there was no report of any loss of life or property. A Gandhinagar-based ISR official said the quake was recorded at a depth of 6.2 km at Mithiyala village in Sawarkundla taluk, 44 km southeast of Amreli.
On February 19, an earthquake measuring 2.2 on the Richter scale was recorded in Kamba area of Amreli district in Saurashtra region. Gujarat’s Kutch district, located in the Saurashtra region, experienced a devastating earthquake in January 2001 that killed 13,800 people and injured 1.67 lakh. The earthquake caused heavy damage in various towns and villages of the district.
