Navalgund  (KDK), Apr 28 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday that Congress president M. Mallikarjuna Kharge called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a ‘poisonous snake’ and that the Congress and its leaders were heartbroken.

Noting that Modi is being greeted with great respect across the world, he said the Congress could not incite people with such statements because the support for the prime minister would increase to the extent that they would abuse him.

“Congress lacks issues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in last nine years has raised India’s pride in the world, worked to make India prosperous, strengthened India’s infrastructure, made India’s borders secure. Wherever Modiji goes across the world, people greet him with chants of Modi-Modi,” Shah said.

Addressing a public meeting at Navalgund  in Dharwad district, he said, “Congress president Kharge says that our leader Modi, whom the world respects and welcomes, is like a poisonous snake. I want to ask you whether you can make the Congress party win the election by comparing Modi to a poisonous snake. ” The same Congress gives the slogan ‘Modi Teri khabar khudegi’, Sonia Gandhi says ‘Maut Ka Saudagar’, Priyanka Gandhi says ‘neechi jati ke log’ (people of low caste), and he (Kharge) says ‘Vishela Samp’ (venomous snake), Congress people, you have lost your mind. How much ever you abuse Modi, lotus will bloom,” Shah said.

By badmouthing Modi, the Congress cannot sway the people of Karnataka, he said, adding, “If you abuse Modi, his support will increase.” Speaking at an election campaign rally in Karnataka, Kharge compared Modi to a poisonous snake. As an uproar erupted, he later sought to clarify that his comments were not aimed at the Prime Minister but at the ruling BJP.

Among India’s prime ministers, Modi is the only one who was born into a poor family as the son of a tea seller, Shah said. Today he has accepted a high position and is working for the betterment of crores of poor people.

“Congress always talks about garibi hatao (relief from poverty) but does nothing for the poor,” he added. PTI KSU RS KSU ROH
