Breaking News Today, Live Updates Mar 14: Parliament adjourned for the day amid uproar over Rahul Gandhi’s democracy remarks
Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm on Tuesday due to an uproar over Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s democratic remarks.
As the Lok Sabha sat for the day, Speaker Om Birla took question time, urging members to allow the House to function. Asking the standing Congress members to maintain decorum in the House and not display placards, Birla said they should allow the House to function.
However, the Speaker adjourned the House till 2 PM as the Congress members continued to protest.
Gandhi had recently alleged in London that the structures of Indian democracy were under brutal attack and that there was a full-scale assault on the country’s institutions.
Demanding an apology from Gandhi for his comments, the ruling BJP accused the Congress leader of trying to defame India.
Lok Sabha proceedings were disrupted on Monday, and the BJP-Congress deadlock deepened over Gandhi’s comment that the government apologized, while opposition benches demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani-Hindenburg affair.
