Elections to the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly will be held today on February 27. Voting began at 7 am and 369 candidates are in the fray. The ruling National People’s Party is facing tough competition from the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is contesting in all 60 constituencies. The Congress, which once ruled Meghalaya in alliance with smaller regional parties, is aiming to make a comeback in the state. The Trinamool Congress is also trying to oust the current government from office. The election results will be announced on March 2. Meghalaya Assembly Election 2023: According to the latest data from the Election Commission, Meghalaya recorded 76.66 percent voting. In Meghalaya, 63.91 per cent voting was reported in 59 assembly constituencies as of 3 pm. Voting started at 7 am and ended at 4 pm. The polling percentage increased day by day. It was 44.73 per cent till 1 pm, 26.70 per cent till 11 am and 12.06 per cent till 9 am. The ruling National People’s Party will fight to retain power, while the BJP and Trinamool Congress will also try to oust the incumbent government. Stay with TOI for latest developments
