MP: 25 feared trapped as roof of well collapses at temple
At least 10 people have been rescued and nine are feared trapped after a stepwell collapsed in the Baleshwar Mahadev temple complex in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that he is in touch with the Indore district administration. “So far, 10 people have been rescued and efforts are on to rescue a few more trapped in the well. No casualties have been reported so far.”
The collapsed well is at least 50-60 feet deep and full of water.
The incident took place when a large number of people had gathered at the temple to offer prayers ahead of Ram Navami. While some devotees were performing ‘Havanam’, many were standing in queues.
Officials said the rescue operation was hampered due to the narrowness of the well.
People trapped in the well were rescued with ropes.
More details awaited.
