New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dedicated a website detailing the arguments, written submissions and judgment in the historic Kesavananda Bharati case that laid the path-breaking concept of the ‘basic structure’ of the Constitution.
April 24 marks the 50th anniversary of the Kesavananda Bharati judgment.

“We have dedicated a web page for all written submissions related to the Kesavananda case and for researchers all over the world to see. The judgment was delivered 50 years ago on this day on April 24, 1973,” said a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.

Lawyers present in the courtroom hailed the move, saying it would greatly help legal researchers, students and lawyers.

In a historic judgment delivered by a 13-judge bench, the Supreme Court, by a majority of 7:6, laid down the concept of ‘fundamental structure’ of the Constitution, thereby restricting it from impinging on the amending power of Parliament. Basic structure of the constitution.
