The 46th edition of Kolkata Book Fair, also known as Boi Mela, will be inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on January 30 at 2 pm. With Spain as the theme for 2023, Mara José Calvez Salvador of the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports and Spanish Ambassador to India José María Ridao Dominguez and other dignitaries will attend the opening ceremony.
It is said to be second only in size and footprint to the Frankfurt Book Fair. and the second largest book fair in the world. This year will see around 900 stalls, of which 700 will be dedicated to books and 200 to Bengal’s famous small press genre. These stalls will be named after teacher and teacher Rampada Chaudhary to commemorate his birthday.

About The Book Mela
It is said to be second only in size and footprint to the Frankfurt Book Fair. and the second largest book fair in the world. This year will see around 900 stalls, of which 700 will be dedicated to books and 200 to Bengal’s famous small press genre. These stalls will be named after teacher and teacher Rampada Chaudhary to commemorate his birthday.
The exhibition will be open for visitors from January 31 to February 12. A parallel event, the 9th Kolkata Literary Festival, will be held from February 9 to 11 at the SBI Auditorium.
Around 20 countries across the world will participate in this year’s Poi Mela. Spain is the main country this year. Spain, which appears as the theme country for the second time, will be represented at the event by writers David Truba, Eva Baltazar, Luis García Montero, Agustin Fernández Mayo, Jesus Aguado, Anna Caballé and Jordi Gracia.
America, United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Japan, France, Cuba, Italy, Australia and many other Latin American countries will be represented at the book fair. Thailand is participating for the first time.
Harper Collins, Penguin Random House India, Pan Macmillan, Rupa, Bloomsbury , Clever Fox Publishing And many other major publishing houses will have their own booths at the book fair.
On February 4, Bangladesh Day will be celebrated with a discussion by authors, writers and poets from Kolkata and Bangladesh.
The exhibition will have several kiosks and bio-toilets provided by the Jute Board to reduce plastic.
A book lottery
Every day Rs. 15,000 worth of free book gift certificates and a daily lottery will be held for award winners. A program called “Buy Books and Win Book Library” will also be available this year. Winners will get Rs. 25,000 worth of coupons and a small library of books for their homes.
