Australia vs West Indies, 2nd Test: Marnes Labuschagne became the fastest player to reach 3000 Test runs in the last 74 years. The right-hander scored 163 runs in the first innings of the Adelaide Test.
By Sabyasachi Chowdhury: Marnus Labuschagne became the second fastest batsman to cross 3000 runs in Test cricket on Friday, December 9. The right-hander is level with West Indies batsman Everton Weeks, who achieved the milestone in 51 innings in January 1948.
Australia’s Sir Donald Bradman became the fastest player to cross 3000 Test runs in just 33 innings in November 1928. As for Lapushon, he crossed the 3000-run mark in the second Test against Western Australia. Indies at Adelaide Oval.
Labuschagne was 153 runs away from the milestone ahead of the day-night Test in Adelaide. The youngster is currently ranked No.1 in the Test rankings with 935 rating points. Earlier this year, he reached his best score of 936 during Australia’s Test series against Pakistan.
As for the ongoing Test, Labuschagne reached his half-century off 108 balls, after which he scored a century off 186 balls. Labuschagne scored 150 in the first session on Day 2.
Labuschagne was named man of the match as Australia won the first Test by 164 runs at Perth. He scored 204 in the first innings followed by an unbeaten 104 in the second innings.
Labuschagne is also the highest run-scorer in the ongoing series and is fast approaching 500 runs. The Brisbane Heat star came on as a concussed replacement for Steve Smith in the 2019 Lord’s Test against England and from there, his life turned around.
