Karnataka HC initiates suo motu case over metro pillar collapse that killed 2 in Bengaluru
The Karnataka High Court on Friday decided to take up a voluntary public interest litigation in connection with the January 10 death of a woman and her child after a Bengaluru Metro pillar collapsed.
Tejaswini, a 28-year-old software engineer, and her 2.5-year-old son died when an under-construction pillar of the Bengaluru Metro fell on the motorcycle they were riding on. Her husband and twin daughters escaped unharmed.
Following the accident, three Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials were suspended on Wednesday in connection with the accident. BMRCL suspended its deputy chief engineer, executive engineer and site engineer and asked the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to conduct an independent inquiry into the matter.
