Anand Mahindra shares 1957 video of India student debating British host, Shashi Tharoor reacts

A viral video from 1957 shows a young Indian student debating a British woman. The video was shared by Anand Mahindra and Shashi Tharoor also responded to it.
Businessman Anand Mahindra often shares intriguing posts on Twitter. In a recent viral post he shared, a young Indian student named Padmanabha Gopinath can be seen debating his views on discrimination with a British host. The tweet also caught the attention of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

The video, which dates back to 1957, shows a British presenter asking students about prejudice. As she finishes her question, Gopinath begins to say, “Prejudice is willful ignorance. It is dictated only by emotion. And the fear and doubt it creates is more harmful than I think.” Also in that video, a Pakistani student participated in the debate and supported Gopinath. He can be heard saying to the British host, “You built the entire British Empire out of India.”

After Anand Mahindra shared the clip on Twitter, he praised the students’ professionalism and self-confidence while arguing for India in 1957. Mahindra also quoted Congressman Shashi Tharoor for asking about Gopinath’s whereabouts.
