Thiruvananthapuram, March 15 (PTI) Members of the opposition Congress-UDF staged an unprecedented protest at Kerala Speaker AN Shamsir’s office in the Assembly complex on Wednesday, alleging unilateralism in the House.
Opposition legislators have been protesting for several days against the Speaker’s refusal to issue notices for adjournment resolutions on various important issues.
Protests erupted in the House early on when Shamseer announced that he could not take notice of the adjournment resolution on the protection of women.
They marched out of the House carrying the banner and raising slogans saying ‘Speaker should establish justice’ and marched to the Speaker’s office in the same premises.
Tension prevailed in front of the office as some of the UDF MLAs tried to force their way forward as surveillance and ward staff routed them. Surveillance and ward staff, known as House Marshals, oversee the security of the state legislature and work under the control of the speaker and legislative secretary.
Later, raising slogans against the Speaker, the legislators staged a sit-in in front of the office. PTI LGK TGB HDA HDA
