Time for India to look at manufacturing aerospace products in India: Scindia

New Delhi, Mar 20 (PTI) Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Monday that it is time for India to look at the manufacturing of aerospace products as it highlighted the growth potential of the country’s aviation sector. Domestic airlines are expected to have around 2,000 aircraft in the next five to seven years, he added.

It is time to look at manufacturing of aerospace products in India. “The time is ripe to start manufacturing in India,” he said, stressing that the country’s aviation sector is growing at a rapid pace.

Speaking at a summit organized by aviation consultancy CAPA, the minister said, “We need to boost the Indian civil aviation environment.” “Come be a part of the civil aviation growth story,” he said.

According to him, 15 Flying Training Organizations (FTOs) are expected to be set up by the end of this year, taking the total number of FTOs to 50.

Currently there are 35 FTOs. Highlighting the growth of the drone industry, he said it is expected to be worth Rs 3 lakh crore by 2030 and create about 2.5 lakh jobs

. “We are looking at (improving) the ease of doing business in India,” he noted.

Scindia said consultations are underway to amend both the Aviation Act and Rules to further enhance ease of doing business. All sectors have an S-shaped evolution curve and for the civil aviation sector, India is between “infancy and growth”, the minister said.
According to him, ‘S’ stands for childhood stage, developmental stage and maturity stage.
