Maha: Naxalite killed by police in Gadchiroli; encounter going on
Katchiroli, April 1 (PTI) A Naxalite was shot dead by the police in an encounter that has been going on since 10 am in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on Saturday, sources said.
Police sources said the gunfight was ongoing in Kiarkoti-Abujhmad forest area of Bhamragarh taluk. A large number of weapons were recovered from the encounter site, they said.
“It is difficult to get real-time updates as the area is densely forested. We learned that the encounter is still going on,” a police source said.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the anti-Naxal squad C60 of the Gadchiroli police launched an operation in the Abujhmad forest area of Chhattisgarh border on Saturday morning.
During this operation, they came under fire from Naxalites lurking in the area. One Naxalite was killed in a retaliatory attack by members of the C60 group, sources said, adding that more Naxalites may have been killed.
