Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday that US-based Boeing wants to see a larger presence in India as the US company has recently ordered a large number of aircraft from Tata Group-owned Air India. In February, in one of the largest aircraft orders by an airline, Air India announced the purchase of 470 narrow-body and wide-body aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, with a total contract value estimated at USD 80 billion (over Rs 6.40 crore). lakh crore).
Goyal said India-US bilateral trade is growing at a healthy rate and both sides aim to expand trade four-fold.
By 2030, India aims to increase its exports of goods and services to USD 2 trillion.
“Boeing has received a very large order from Tata and I understand that similar orders are in the pipeline… We would like to see a greater presence of Boeing in India and we would like to see you expand your local supply chains. And more MRO (maintenance, repair and operations) operations here. are available, which will serve the entire region,” Goyal said while addressing a function on India-US partnership.
He hoped that more such big companies from the US would work closely with Indian companies.
Also, as Ajay Banka has been appointed as the next president of the World Bank, the minister said, “I am confident that he will be able to bring an evolving global perspective and a more sensitive approach to the way the World Bank works and operates.”
Banka was named the next president of the World Bank on May 3, becoming the first Indian-American to head the global financial institution.
He also said that there are great opportunities to enhance cooperation in sectors like defence, pharma, textiles, engineering, auto parts, agricultural products, power etc.
“Alphonso mangoes are also sold in large quantities in the US,” Goyal said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Consul General of the US Embassy, Patricia Lacina, expressed hope that US companies will partner more with Indian companies in innovative and emerging technologies.
“This year, Indian tourists in the US are expected to surpass pre-Covid levels, and I think we can expect even more as Air India takes off its biggest aircraft from Boeing in February and launches new flights and airports in India. Americans will come to India in the coming years,” He said.
This year, he said, “we expect the number of Indian students studying in the US to be higher than last year.”
