Video Shows Maharashtra Villagers Lifting Newly-Made Road With Bare Hands
A video circulating on social media shows villagers ‘lifting’ the newly constructed road with their bare hands. Many Twitter handles claim that this strange incident took place in Maharashtra. The 38-second clip shows a carpet-like material placed directly under a roadway built by a local contractor. In the clip, villagers slander the shoddy work of a local contractor named Rana Thakur. They call the job “fake” holding the carpet down on the asphalt.
According to the Free Press Journal, the incident took place in Karjat-Hast Pokhari, a part of Ambad taluka in Jalna district of Maharashtra. The road was constructed under the Pradham Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (Prime Minister’s Rural Road Scheme).
The contractor said it would use German technology to build the road, the outlet added.
However, as seen in the video, the promise turned hollow as the temporary solution was exposed by the villagers.
Local people also criticized the Maharashtra government. According to the Free Press Journal, action should be taken against the engineer who approved the shoddy work.

According to the Make in India website, India has the second largest road network in the world with a length of 63.32 lakh kilometers. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has various agencies to implement road construction: National Highways Authority of India, Public Works Departments of States and Union Territories, National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation, Border Roads Organization and Indian Academy of Highway Engineers (IAHE).
In conventional road construction, a mixture of gravel, sand and compacted soil is used to ensure durability and stability. In recent years, engineers have started using concrete to increase the durability of the road.
