Kolkata, Mar 4 (PTI) West Bengal Congress spokesperson Kaustav was arrested from his residence on Saturday morning for making comments against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a senior police official said.
A large team from the city’s Bardolla police station raided Bagshi’s house in Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal around 3.30 am and arrested him.
A complaint was lodged against Bagshi at Bardolla police station on Friday for making comments against the Chief Minister.
“We have arrested Kaustav from his residence in Barrackpore. We cannot talk much about it. Our officials are talking to him,” the official told PTI.
After the Congress won the Sagardiki by-election, Kaustav, a lawyer, slammed the chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee for her “personal attacks” on West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
After his arrest, Bagsi was brought to Bartola police station even as party workers protested outside the police station.
Baxi has been booked under sections 120(b) (criminal conspiracy), 504 (intentional insult with intent to disturb the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and other sections of the IPC.
