Former K’taka CM Kumaraswamy calls Congress ‘hypocrite’ for boycotting opening of new Parliament
Bengaluru, May 26 (PTI) JD(S) leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday slammed the “hypocritical Congress” for boycotting the inauguration of the new Parliament building.
The Congress and some other political parties have decided to boycott the May 28 inauguration, saying President Draupadi Murmu should have done it and not Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A day after former prime minister and JTS chief HD Deve Gowda announced that he would attend the swearing-in ceremony, the Congress’s invitation to his son, JDS second-in-command Kumaraswamy, was a display of its double standards. said. “petty politics” to sway votes in its favor by “pleasing certain communities”.
The JD(S) leader, however, clarified that the stand taken should not be taken as his party’s soft corner for the BJP.
Speaking to reporters here, Kumaraswamy said that the Janata Dal (S) held detailed discussions on the topic and finally agreed to participate in the inauguration ceremony on May 28.
The former chief minister said that the Parliament building was not built by a party but with the tax money of the people. However, the Congress and some parties have decided to ignore the idea that the President from a tribal community should inaugurate the inauguration ceremony.
Kumaraswamy reminded the Congress that it was Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi who laid the foundation stone for the Chhattisgarh Assembly building and not the Governor.
“In Karnataka also, the foundation of Vikasa Soudha was inaugurated in 2005 by the then Congress Chief Minister (Dharam Singh), not the Governor (then). This is a double talk by the Congress, which tries to sway votes in its favor by presenting trivial political issues to satisfy certain communities,” Kumaraswamy said.
He also questioned why the Congress fielded former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha against the party during the presidential election if there was so much respect for the tribal woman.
“If you really have respect for an indigenous woman, you should have elected her unopposed because it was a presidential election. Why did you field Yashwant Sinha? Now, you have developed respect for her! We see your hypocrisy behind your respect for President Murmu,” Kumaraswamy said.
