Mumbai, May 24 (PTI) Netflix and Clean Slate Films on Wednesday announced a new crime series titled “Kohra”.
Sudip Sharma of “Pataal Lok” has co-created the series with writers Gunjit Chopra and Diggi Sisodia. Sharma will also as serve showrunner with Randeep Jha as director, a press release stated.
“Kohra” will have an ensemble cast of Suwinder Vicky, Barun Chopti, Varun Patola, Harleen Sethi, Rachel Shelley and Manish Chaudhary.
Described as an engaging detective drama, the show begins with the discovery of an NRI murdered before her wedding in rural Punjab.
The investigation reveals a world of deceit, secrets and the drama of dysfunctional families.
“When Kunjit Chopra and Dicky Sisodia came to me with the idea of Kohrra, I was drawn to the possibilities of a new and unique police detective story underlined with complexities of human emotions.
“Together, we have tried to create a show that engages you and draws you in completely, but stays with you afterwards. The collaboration between Netflix, Clean Slate Films and an extraordinary cast has allowed us to create a show that will be loved by the audience,” said Sharma.
Clean Slate Films will produce the project. Banner’s founder and chairman Karnesh Sharma will be the executive producer.
Sharma said he was happy to take the production company’s association with Netflix forward with “Kohra” after “Bulbbul” and “Qala”.
“This is a crime investigation drama set in the heart of Punjab, which touches on the personal lives of two policemen working on the investigation and everyone involved. Sudeep, Randeep and the powerful cast have created a truly authentic story that we are keen to take to the audience,” he added.
The streaming service’s subscribers are eager for more compelling crime stories, said Tanya Bami, head of series, Netflix India.
“This is a crime noir set in Punjab that explores the dynamics of family, relationships and love. Sudeep Sharma’s unmatched nuance and depth in storytelling explores crimes against society through the eyes of this buddy cop drama.
