Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan has become India’s all-time number one Hindi film by grossing Rs 1,028 crore worldwide since its release in January, according to Yash Raj Films (YRF).
According to the studio, Sixth Friday, directed by Siddharth Anand, has collected Rs 1.07 crore (Hindi – 1.05 crore, all dubbed versions – 0.02 crore) in India.
“Total worldwide collection is 1028 crore (India total – 641.50 crore, overseas – 386.50 crore),” YRF said in a press release.
The film, a mega comeback vehicle for Shah Rukh who has been out of leading roles for over four years, released on January 25 and created a lot of buzz.
“It’s incredible that Pathan is India’s number one Hindi film today! The love and appreciation showered on Pathan by the audience is reflected in the history and box office results as well. As a director, I am proud to have made a film that will entertain people globally,” Anand said in his statement.
The new milestone comes just days after Pathan became the highest-grossing Hindi film worldwide in its initial run in the history of Hindi cinema. Dangal is the highest-grossing Indian film, grossing around Rs.2,000 crores.
In its initial run or first phase of release, the Aamir Khan starrer earned over Rs 700 crore. In its second phase, when it was released in theaters in China, the box office of the film crossed Rs 1,000 crore worldwide.
Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, RRR and KGF: Chapter 2 are other Indian films that crossed Rs 1,000 crore at the global box office.
Pathan, which also stars John Abraham and Deepika Padukone, is an important step in YRF’s spy franchise, where characters from different films will cross paths at some point. The film follows a spy (Shah Rukh) who is exiled to stop a terrorist group called Outfit X from launching a weak attack on India.
It is the fourth film in producer Aditya Chopra’s spy universe following Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai and Hrithik Roshan starrer waar.
