Haryana police on alert after Amritpal Singh’s last location traced in Kurukshetra district
Chandigarh, Mar 24 (PTI) Haryana Police on Friday said it has stepped up surveillance across the state and its personnel have been alerted after the last whereabouts of radical preacher Amritpal Singh were found in Kurushetra district.
However, the whereabouts of Amritpal and his accomplice Pappalpreet Singh are unknown. A woman reportedly sheltered them at her house in Shahabad, Kurukshetra district on March 19.
A senior Punjab Police official said on Thursday, “When we came to know that he was absconding from Punjab, we immediately alerted other states.” Haryana Additional DGP (Law and Order) Mamata Singh said on Friday that there was no information about where Amritpal had gone from Shahabad.
“So far, there is no other input. However, we are alert and monitoring,” Singh told PTI over phone.
Baljit Kaur, the woman who allegedly sheltered Amritpal Singh and his accomplice Pappalpreet Singh, was arrested on Thursday at her house in Kurushetra district. He was interrogated by the Punjab police.
Additional DGP (law and order) Mamata Singh said that when the Haryana police received information about the woman and her accomplice who had sheltered Amritpal, they shared it with their Punjab counterparts.
CCTV footage emerged in Haryana’s Shahabad on Thursday of Amritpal wearing a shirt and trousers and holding an umbrella, hiding from police view.
Later, another scene allegedly surfaced on March 20 in which the radical preacher was again seen carrying an umbrella and moving on the road opposite the Shahabad bus stand, Haryana Police sources said.
Meanwhile, in Jalandhar, the driver of the cab in which Amritpal and his partner Pappalpreet were sitting said that the duo had asked them to take them to a tire repair shop as their bike had a punctured tyre.
The driver said he did not know about the radical preacher at the time.
Meanwhile, a video has surfaced showing one of Amritpal’s accomplices firing in Jallupur Gera, the preacher’s native village in Amritsar district. Pictures of some associates posing with weapons and a hologram of the Anandpur Khalsa Force (AKF) have surfaced.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Sukhsain Singh Gill said on Thursday that following the interrogation of Amritpal’s accomplice Dejinder Singh Gill, who was arrested by the Khanna police, some important items were seized that indicated their involvement in “anti-national activities”.
Khanna police arrested Tejinder Singh Gill, who was a member of Khalistan sympathizer’s private security outfit.
Last month, Amritpal and his supporters, some of them brandishing swords and guns, broke barricades and entered the Ajnala police station on the outskirts of Amritsar, clashing with police to free one of the preacher’s assistants.
Last week, the Punjab Police launched a crackdown against Amritpal and his outfit “Waris Punjab D”.
However, when his cavalry was intercepted in Jalandhar district, Amritpal escaped their trap by giving a slip to the police. After his escape, Amritpal changed his appearance, wearing sunglasses and western clothes and using different modes of travel. PTI SUN VSD NSD NSD
