Japanese Tourist, Who Was Harassed During Holi Celebrations, Leaves India
New Delhi: Three people have been arrested in the case of harassing and humiliating a Japanese woman on Holi in Delhi, the police said today.
They added that the woman has not filed a complaint yet and she left for Bangladesh yesterday.
The young tourist was staying in Paharganj in central Delhi and the three accused, including a minor, hailed from the same area. “The woman has tweeted that she has reached Bangladesh and is mentally and physically healthy,” police said in a statement. The video of the incident, which is going viral on social media, has raised slogans that strict action should be taken.
In the video, men can be seen grabbing her and smearing colors on her amid chants of “Holy Hai”.
A boy can also be seen breaking an egg on her head. She slapped a man who tried to grab her before finally walking away, the video shows. By the end of her ordeal, the woman was soaked and almost unrecognizable. Officials said the accused have been identified through local intelligence and are being investigated and are in touch with the Japanese embassy.
