Calcutta HC orders NIA probe into violence in Shibpur during Ram Navami
Kolkata, Apr 27 (PTI) The Calcutta High Court on Thursday ordered an NIA probe into the violence in Howrah district’s Shibpur during the Rama Navami celebrations.
Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari, a division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam ordered the transfer of the investigation from the West Bengal Police to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
In a public interest petition, the officer sought an NIA probe into the alleged bomb blast violence.
The court directed the state police to hand over all records and CCTV footage related to the matter to the central government within two weeks.
The central government was then directed to send the documents to the NIA.
