Kannada Actor Chetan Kumar Arrested For ‘Objectionable’ Tweet On Hindutva
Bengaluru: Kannada actor Chetan Kumar popularly known as Chetan Ahimsa has been arrested by Bengaluru police after his tweet about Hindutva went viral. In the complaint against him, his tweets saying “Hindutva is built on lies” are alleged to have hurt the sentiments of Hindus.
He was arrested by Bengaluru Seshathripuram police. The actor, a Dalit and tribal activist, has been produced before the district court.
He faces charges of insulting a religion or religious beliefs and making statements promoting communal enmity.
In a tweet on March 20, Mr Kumar said that Hindutva is built on lies.
The actor said that only truth can defeat Hindutva.
Within hours of his tweet, pro-Hindu organizations filed a complaint against him and registered an FIR at Seshatripuram police station.
This isn’t the actor’s first run with the law. In February 2022, she was arrested for an objectionable tweet against Karnataka High Court judge Krishna Dixit, who was hearing a hijab case.
