MP: Army man booked for misappropriating Rs one crore govt funds

Mhow (MP), Apr. 1 (PTI) Police have registered a case against an Army havildar working as a clerk at the Army Marksmanship  Unit (AMU) in Mow, Madhya Pradesh, for misappropriating government funds to the tune of one crore rupees. The amount was deposited into his relative’s bank account, an official said on Sunday.

A case was registered against him following a letter written by AMU officials to the police, he said.

The letter states that the clerk posted at AMU Mhow transferred the unit’s government money to the bank account of one of his relatives residing in Ludhiana, Punjab, said Devesh Pal, sub-inspector of Mhow police station.

After verification, a case was registered against him under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Friday night on the direction of senior officials, he said.

The police official said that since the accused is an army man, legal action will be taken against the security forces personnel involved in any criminal activity.

Last week, a 42-year-old clerk working in the Indore Collectorate was arrested for allegedly embezzling Rs 5.68 crore of government funds in the last 3 years. The accused had transferred funds belonging to the beneficiaries of various welfare schemes to about 25 bank accounts since 2020, including those of his wife, relatives and acquaintances.
