Delhi Police cop injured while trying to nab suspected robbers
A Delhi Police front constable was injured on Friday while trying to arrest two suspects suspected of involvement in a robbery in the city’s southwest, police said. A senior police official said a PCR call was received by Head Constable Naresh of Vasant Kunj South Police Station around 2 am regarding an encounter with criminals near Aerocity National Highway-8. On a suspicious note, the staff spotted the movement of a car suspected to have been used in the robbery and began a chase. During the chase, the vehicle came near the Aerocity NH-8 picket line where they signaled them to stop, the officer said. Naresh and his fellow head constable Vivek tried to stop the vehicle, but the occupant of the car opened fire on them, the officer said. Naresh tried to grab one of the passengers and in response, Vivek, who was standing on the other side of the car, fired at the assailants, the officer said, adding that the driver tried to escape from the spot and sped away. , hit the barricade. Naresh was injured in a scuffle with one of the bystanders and later his pistol went missing, police said. The head constable was taken to Saptarjung Hospital for treatment and is stable, they said.
